Complete reflexology for your life... it seems like such a simple concept: using reflexology to get healthful results for any stage of life and for any goal in life. How do you actually do it though?
To help you in your quest for better health and fitness through reflexology, we've gathered advice garnered from our thirty plus years of experience and exploration. Since reflexology is all about applying pressure to reflex areas of the feet and hands, we'll be directing you to information, helping you find where to apply pressure and which way of applying pressure works best for you. Simple enough. To make your life easier, you'll want to profit by what others have done. Here you'll find advice for finding information to use reflexology for health and fitness: the best way to apply a technique; when a self-help tool is your best option; whether work on the foot is better than the hand; what research has to say; and when and how to find a professional reflexologist.
Just to give you an idea about the kind of advice we give about getting results, here are some examples, recent requests for help that have come our way.
A New Jersey caller wondered which reflexology book to buy to suit his needs. As the conversation went on, it came out that he had wanted to work on himself for a particular health problem (undisclosed), had no Internet access and worked three jobs.
Then there was the caller from Florida. He wondered if reflexology could help with his tinnitis. The medical remedy would cost $5,000, not be covered by his insurance and may or may not work at the end of the six months of treatment. When searching the Internet, he had seen a post by someone who had been successful using reflexology for Tinnitis.
An on-line comment told the story of an individual who had a partner in the hospital recovering from abdominal surgery. He wanted to help his partner leave the hospital as soon as possible which would mean moving his bowels.
For Mr. New Jersey, I assessed that his monetary resources were low but he was willing to apply time and energy to pursue his health concern. Self-help and low cost were the orders of the day. I suggested a self-help book ( Hand and Foot Reflexology, A Self-Help Guide by Kunz & Kunz) readily available at any Barnes & Noble store. It includes how-to instructions and specifics for a variety of disorders, organs and parts of the body. I continued in the self-help vein and mentioned how walking on the cobblestone / reflexology mat had been tested and demonstrated positive results. In addition, walking the reflexology paths in parks is such a part of Chinese culture that funding for paths and suggestions for use is included in the Chinese government's national fitness plan. And, the mats are currently available at almost half their one time cost, now priced at $25.50. LINK He had seen the mats on a health show and was interested. I found a phone number he could call to make the purchase.
The caller from Florida wanted to work on his own after getting launched by a reflexologist. I noted that I didn't know of any research showing successful use of reflexology for tinnitis. As far as anecdotal stories go, I could tell him that both Kevin and I saw results with our own minor tinnitis problems. In addition, two of Kevin's clients had seen successful results. I told him where the relevant reflex area was located and suggested a particular reflexology book ( Reflexology, Health at your fingertips , Kunz & Kunz) since I knew his specific health concern and that it was targeted in the book. The caller commented that he wanted to see a reflexologist, learn some things and then work on his own. I suggested asking around to find a reflexologist in the area.
The on-line comment came from someone who solved his own problem. By referring to the interactive reflexology chart available from DK.com, he found the location of the intestinal reflex area and applied technique to the feet. He's convinced that this lead to his partner's earlier-thanexpected release from the hospital.
You'll notice what happened here with the three stories of reflexology use. For one individual, previous knowledge and skills in reflexology lead him to pair a reflex area location from a reflexology chart and technique application to a specific part of the foot. His solution was to access a reflexology chart to key in on where to apply technique and then apply technique to solve his problem.
For the others, both had some expectation that reflexology could help their health concerns and were willing to consider how to use it. So, for them, it was a matter of finding information and considering in what form to apply reflexology's pressure techniques. For one individual, there were financial constraints but a willingness to go with self-help solutions. The other individual wanted to speed things up by consulting with a reflexologist to get ahead and learn how to apply technique.
As you consider how to get results with reflexology, consider what you're seeking and how to focus on the reflexology solution. Is it self-help, at-home help or professional services that will achieve your goal(s)? Next, think about what resources will best help you learn the information you need or lead you to purchase the self-help tool or services that will help you.
Good luck with your search and reflexology use. We'd like to know how you've done so write and tell us. LINK
